Class Announcements 

The Career Preparedness course focuses on three integrated areas of instruction - academic planning and career development, financial literacy, and technology. Course content ranges from college and career preparation to computer literacy skills to ways to manage personal finances and reduce personal risk. Mastery of the content standards provides a strong foundation for student acquisition of the skills, attitudes, and knowledge that enables them to achieve success in school, at work, and across the life span.

VIDEOS/MOVIES TO ENHANCE LEARNING

Videos/movies are used to enhance the learning process. Students are expected to stay awake, be quiet, and to complete any questions related to the movie.  I have watched all of the movies. Movie reviews are available at www.commonsensemedia.org. Movies that we will be watching are:

·         Mr. Holland’s Opus (Career Choices) Rated PG

·         Pursuit of Happiness (Career Choices) Rated PG-13

·         The Blind Side (Life Choices) Rated PG-13

·         Cyberbully (digital citizenship, cyberbullying) Rated PG-13

·         Confessions of a Shopaholic (Debt & Career Choices) Rated G

CLASS MATERIALS REQUIRED

Headphones are required and the student should bring them every day. Folder with prongs/pockets or a binder, paper and pen/pencil for notes and tests. No colored pens. 

LAB DONATION

Due to the course requirements, the school is requesting a $20 donation or 4 reams of paper. These donations help supply the paper, equipment and toner (which is $500 for the year) required for the course.

 

ADDITIONAL DONATIONS FOR STUDENT USE

Tissues, hand sanitizer and clorox wipes. Donations of these items throughout the year are greatly appreciated for the students’ health.

 

LEARNING THROUGH ONLINE RESOURCES AND EXPERIENCES

This course requires students to use online resources. Students will use:

Edmodo – (www.edmodo.com) allows the student to save and submit work online to the teacher. This also allows them to work at home.

Google Docs – students will need to setup a Google account in order to use the online programs which are free. Please have an account setup by August 28.

Everfi - students will use an online learning resource that teaches digital citizenship, human relations, and financial literacy.
